Let’s Sit On It is a waiting sculpture for the waiting hall of Gothenburg Central Station that attempts to create opportunities for different ways of sitting. Maybe if adults and children can regulate themselves by bouncing, squatting, sprawling and exploring different surfaces with their bodies, the waiting experience might be more enjoyable? Let’s sit on it?
Preschoolers were consulted in the creation of the waiting sculpture. I investigated the ways that children move, climb, and play with the objects presented (foam tubes, bean bags, inflated vacuum-packed balloons, plinths) and focused on 3 guiding principles for the final outcome:
Surfaces include: exercise ball, bean bag, sitting pouf, cushions and a padded L-shaped bench.

Preschoolers were consulted in the creation of the waiting sculpture. I investigated the ways that children move, climb, and play with the objects presented (foam tubes, bean bags, inflated vacuum-packed balloons, plinths) and focused on 3 guiding principles for the final outcome:
- Visibility of the child (height of the scuplture should not block an adults view of the child)
-
Movement as emotional regulation (different surfaces allowed for tactile exploration)
-
Room for different ways of sitting (varied height and shape of sculpture)
