This project is situated in my local neighbourhood in East Gothenburg, where arts and cultural spaces are fewer compared to the city centre.&nbsp; A&nbsp;giant inflatable pillow takes over a&nbsp;large hall in the cultural heritage building&nbsp;Kompani 415, serving as an interactive space that reimagines the&nbsp;hall as a dynamic setting for intergenerational and&nbsp;improvisational play. Working hyperlocally required setting foundational relations with the community in the area. To do this, I organised open atelier sessions on Saturdays at the cafe in Kompani 415, using it as an opportunity to meet my neighbours and establish my presence. Creating a community is a long and enduring process, and this proved tricky between January and February (when this project was conducted) because it was in the dead of winter and the unusually large amounts of snow that year made everyone sink deeper into hibernation. It took a few open atelier sessions to learn about the community’s preferred platform for events, families’ desires for children's activities, and the general demographic makeup.&nbsp; The two public events of the giant pillow saw new faces and conversations from the neighbourhood each time, further validating that there is a gap in the area's arts and culture offerings. This project is part of a 3-month pilot study to increase visibility of Kompani 415 as a cultural meeting space. If museums are to be inclusive and diverse and operate with the communication and participation of their communities, then they must challenge their current view of children as passive receivers of museum content and programming and direct their attention towards children's capacities for cultural and knowledge production. Instead of engaging them exclusively through the lens of education and pedagogy, I employed improvisation, role-sharing, and material exploration with my co-designers to create an exhibition that was later shown at Monitor Gallery and Frihamnen. Working with 3 groups of school children in Kiruna, Wandering Objects reimagines what a play sculpture co-created with young people can look like in their new city centre. Through a series of co-design workshops, we created a cardboard explorer base and accompanying fantastical tools to explore a new city centre. The children’s creations informed the design decisions for the final sculpture. Wandering Objects became a space where children can climb, hide, create, and imagine. A space in a small forested area opposite the main square in the city, a space we hope they can call their own, a space to wander and explore, a space to be loud and proud 💓🤲🚸🛠️📍This project was made Gothenburg Central Station that attempts to create opportunities for different ways of sitting. Maybe if adults and children can regulate themselves by bouncing, squatting, sprawling and exploring different surfaces with their bodies, the waiting experience might be more enjoyable? Let’s sit on it? Preschoolers were consulted in the creation of the waiting sculpture. I investigated the ways that children move, climb, and play with the objects presented (foam tubes, bean bags, inflated vacuum-packed balloons, plinths) and focused on 3 guiding principles for the final outcome: Visibility of the child (height of the scuplture should not block an adults view of the child) Movement as emotional regulation (different surfaces allowed for tactile exploration) Room for different ways of sitting (varied height and shape of sculpture) Surfaces include: exercise ball, bean bag, sitting pouf, cushions and a padded L-shaped bench. of thoughts and stories, as well as meaningful interaction with peers and the community amongst children with special needs. One of the prototypes created was a Gesture Drawing Interface that can be calibrated (creative engineering by Kaori Toh and Clara Koh). The aim was to empower children with limited mobility to be able to participate in creative expressions such as drawing. We believe that their physical disabilities should not be a barrier to art-making. The brief 3-second wait for the bartender to pop open your beer bottle for you could sometimes feel awkward. You don’t know where to look, where to put your hands. This little bot was meant to serve as a cute filler for the brief 3 seconds. Watch as it joins in to clink your glass once I put the beer bottle next to it!
